DEC. 27th & DEC 28th From 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
For students aged 11- 18 with 3 years of ballet training
KBA is happy to offer a Special Holiday Workshop this December based on the Mazurka.
The Mazurka is a traditional folk dance from Poland. It is featured in many classical ballets as a character dance. Mazurkas are typically done in 3/4 time as the musical tempo. A mazurka featured in a classical ballet usually features a group of corps de ballet dancers and a lead, soloist couple. The costumes generally include longer, full skirts for the woman with heeled character shoes while the men may possibly wear pants and character boots with heels.

The 2-day workshop Dec 27th and Dec 28th from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.
includes a 90-min ballet technique class followed by the Mazurka workshop. There will be a 15-min break between classes. Day 1: Students learn the mazurka step and other mazurka-related steps and combinations. Day 2: Arms are added and the steps are performed using the Mazurka from Coppelia in a choreographed combination. Although it is traditionally danced in Character shoes, students can wear jazz shoes if they have them.
It will be limited to 10 students and costs $60. (KBA Students $45, use code kba15)
